Our New Website
Welcome to the new website of CHS! We hope you like it – and we hope to get your feedback so we can continue to improve.
Why Make The Change?
First and foremost, this is about saving money. Website technology changes, companies grow and merge, pricing structure changes, our needs change. It was time to make a move.
Subscription renewals for the domain and website were coming up, so moving to a new platform now saves money and gets us in the right place to make improvements. As of today, we’re on the new platform, but the content is pretty much identical. It’s a start.
Second big reason for the change is to enhance our capabilities. I’m just getting started on that.
What’s Changing
Right off the bat we’ve got web forms that I’m optimistic actually DO work, and notify me of your contact requests. I’m REALLY excited to see how online membership and donation processing works.
I want to add an online calendar – so folks can request tours, see what kind of events might be coming up, that sort of thing.
I’m working towards getting our newsletters online – converting to PDF so they can be uploaded here and viewable. There is SO much excellent content, it deserves to be available to the world! Ultimately I want to maybe have the more recent newsletters available only to members, via logins and whatnot. That may take some time, figuring out how to make it easy to use and maintain.
I also want to give all of you the option to choose to receive your quarterly newsletter via email rather than USPS, or both, if you want.
As we get our library and museum collections catalogued, we may make parts of that viewable online as well – so that folks from around the world can learn about Cypress.
So many things we can do – both online and in real life. Our project list keeps getting longer and longer.
But for today, I can now mark “complete” the project to move our domain and website to a platform that will stand us in good stead for another decade or more of service to the Cypress Historical Society members.
You’ll notice that there’s a comment section – feedback is ALWAYS welcome!
